The Storm
Thunder shakes me from restless sleep
I listen to the rain tap-tapping on the roof
Like the footfalls of a flamenco dancer
Getting louder, faster, manic in its rhythm
Shadows creep where light should be
I cannot tell where night ends and morning begins
But no one is there to reassure me
That time and place have meaning
I thought it would get easier
That distance could be no more than inconvenience
So foolish I can be when love takes over
Logic abandons me in the dark
But the rain doesn't seem to care
Falling in sheets beyond the window
The world outside is a blur to me
Formless shapes reveal the truth
Thunder does not shake me, I am trembling
The tap-tapping is the pounding of my heart
Tears fall in a torrential downpour, not rain
The storm will never pass
